Your Treatment Plan
Cancers can be treated in three ways—through surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. Many cancers require some combination of these approaches. At the Sands Cancer Center, an individualized treatment plan will be developed specifically for you by a multidisciplinary team of doctors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy refers to drugs that are used to treat cancer. At the Sands Cancer Center, you will have access to the very latest chemotherapy treatments. We also work hard to make the experience of getting chemotherapy easier and more comfortable. Chemotherapy treatments are provided by Interlakes Oncology & Hematology, part of Strong Memorial Hospital and the Wilmot Cancer Institute.
Our treatment area is bright and welcoming, with full-length windows, providing plenty of natural light. Patients can relax in comfortable lounge chairs with heated blankets. Our doctors are board certified in oncology and in hematology and nurses have specialized training in chemotherapy and are certified in oncology.
Radiation therapy
Radiation therapy uses powerful beams to precisely target and destroy cancer cells. The use of radiation relies on advanced technology as well as highly skilled doctors, nurses and technologists—all of which you will find at Sands.
Our center offers a state-of-the-art, computer-controlled linear accelerator for delivering radiation treatments.
Our radiation services are provided by UR Medicine/Highland Hospital, one of the region’s most experienced centers for radiation therapy. With our best care protocols and computerized planning, we assure that each treatment is delivered precisely and safely.
By offering advanced radiation treatments right in the Finger Lakes, we make it easier to get the care you need close to home.
