Hand Therapy

Hand Therapy is the assessment and treatment of diagnoses and/or injuries of the upper extremity. Our Occupational Therapists are experienced hand therapists who assist patients in restoring independence and function as well as preventing dysfunction. All our therapists have received specialized training in upper extremity evaluation and treatment including conservative injury management, pre and post-operative rehabilitation.

Hand Therapy includes treatment of all issues involving the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder such as:

  • Arthritis (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis)
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Tendonitis (Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, DeQuervain’s)
  • Tendon injuries
  • Nerve injuries and compression syndromes (Carpal Tunnel, Cubital Tunnel)
  • Amputations
  • Joint replacement
  • Sprains and strains
  • Wounds and scars

A Hand Therapy program is individualized for each patient based on diagnosis, needs and personal goals. Treatment techniques may include:

  • Sensory re-education/desensitization

  • Adaptive equipment
  • Wound care
  • Functional activity
  • Modalities (heat, cold, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, laser therapy)

Our professionals are dedicated to providing excellent service to all patients. All of our therapists have received specialized training in upper extremity evaluation and treatment and some are credentialed as Certified Hand Therapists. This credential is awarded by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission and is recognized by the American Society of Hand Therapist for expertise in upper extremity rehabilitation.
