Aquatic Therapy

Our Rehabilitation Services Department offers a unique program - Aquatic Therapy - for the Finger Lakes Region.

An Aquatic Therapy pool is located in the physical therapy facility at Canandaigua Rehabilitation. Our pool is kept at a therapeutic 94-96 degrees and features a shallow end 4-feet deep and a deep water area that is 5½-feet deep. Patients are supervised in the water by a Licensed Rehabilitation Clinician who sees that their customized programs are completed both safely and accurately.

Patients attend Aquatic Therapy for many reasons:

  • Physical Therapy – as part of a comprehensive function-based program. This requires a physician referral and is typically covered by insurance.
  • Aftercare – for those who have been discharged from formal therapy and wish to continue Aquatic Therapy to help maintain their independence and fitness level.
  • Prehab – for those about to undergo a total joint replacement so they can maximize their range of motion and strength to help ensure an optimal outcome. These appointments are typically scheduled two times per week for four weeks just prior to surgery and include supervised exercise. Prehab Medical Release forms.

All Aquatic Therapy visits require a scheduled appointment. A swimsuit is required.
