New Urgent Care Opens in Canandaigua

ACCESS TO CARE

A NEW UR MEDICINE Urgent Care Center is now open in Canandaigua at 699 S. Main St., in what is locally referred to as the “old Wegmans plaza.” This is the third urgent care site affiliated with F.F. Thompson Hospital, which also has locations in Farmington and Newark.

“We have deep roots in the Canandaigua community and are dedicated to providing the highest quality care to our patients,” said Thompson Health Medical Director of Urgent Care Dr. David E. Baum. “Our goal is to give prompt, convenient and courteous service that allows people to recover from their illness or injury more quickly.”

Physicians, advanced practice professionals and nurses at the new site treated more than 100 patients during its first full week of business, and Practice Management Director Catherine  Shannon said local residents are offering positive feedback.

Shannon said that in addition to providing convenience, Thompson offers a differentiator from other, privately owned urgent cares.

“Thompson uses an electronic medical record (EMR) system that is shared across the hospital and its three urgent care centers. This shared platform gives our urgent care teams instant, 360-degree access to patients’ medical records, enabling us to provide more fully informed patient care,” she said.

Without immediate access to full patient records, she explained, other urgent care providers may need to make medical decisions without collaborative input from everyone involved in the patient’s prior care.

“When you’re with us, you can be sure we’re seeing the input from your UR Medicine doctors, specialists, pharmacists, and other caregivers who contribute to your chart,” Shannon said.

In addition, because Thompson Health is a nonprofit organization, it offers a financial assistance program. This includes a sliding fee scale, which provides assistance on medical bills for those who qualify after filling out an application.

Thompson also offers interest-free payment plans and payment arrangements, with a dedicated financial counseling team to help meet patient needs.

Like the locations in Farmington and Newark, the Canandaigua location has on-site x-ray services, available on a walk-in basis, and telemedicine services for those who call ahead. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
