Thompson Named to ‘Great Community Hospitals’ List
CANANDAIGUA – F.F. Thompson Hospital was recently named to the list of “153 Great Community Hospitals” released by Becker’s Hospital Review, a Chicago-based publication featuring business and legal information for healthcare industry leaders.
“These community hospitals are lauded for their clinical excellence, compassionate care and economic impact on their communities,” a Becker’s article stated, noting its editorial team selected hospitals based on several outside rankings and ratings, and that hospitals could not pay for inclusion.
Founded in 1904, Thompson is one of eight hospitals in New York state included on the list, with Guthrie Corning Hospital being the only other one in the Finger Lakes region.
As part of a larger health system employing over 1,900 people, Thompson is a 113-bed hospital in Canandaigua. In 2022, it saw approximately 457,000 outpatient visits, more than 32,000 emergency department visits, almost 6,000 admissions and nearly 800 births. Within the past decade, the hospital has increased its number of primary care practice locations from five to 14, and has gone from one urgent care center to three, including one that was just voted “Best Urgent Care” in the Rochester Business Journal’s Reader Rankings poll. In affiliation with UR Medicine since 2012, Thompson has added and enhanced a number of specialties in recent years while improving information technology and implementing new initiatives.
“We are fortunate to be a part of an exceptional community and to have incredible people within our organization,” said Thompson Health President/CEO Michael F. Stapleton, Jr. “They work hard every day to deliver the absolute best care possible, and they are what make our ‘Great Community Hospital’ great.”
Earlier this year, Becker’s named Thompson Health to its list of “150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare” for the sixth time. In addition, Stapleton- at the helm since 2012 – was named for a second time in April to the publication’s list of “Community Hospital CEOs to Know.”
