Thompson Health Sleep Disorders Center to Join the UR Medicine Sleep Center as a Satellite Office
CANANDAIGUA – UR Medicine Thompson Health executive leadership have announced their decision to join the UR Medicine Sleep Center as a satellite office effective the end of April 2024. The Center will be relocating from its current building on Parrish Street in Canandaigua to a new location within Ontario County.
The not-yet-identified new location will house clinic space and provide home sleep apnea tests, which make up 90 percent of patient sleep testing. UR Medicine will refer patients who require in-lab sleep studies to their main sleep lab in Rochester. Via the UR Sleep Center affiliation, another sleep medicine trained-physician provider will be added in Ontario County.
“We do not anticipate any major disruptions in patient care with this change,” said Michael F. Stapleton, Jr., Thompson’s President and CEO. “Since Thompson is a member of the UR Medicine family, it allows us to consolidate this valuable resource while continuing to provide the best and most cost-effective services to our patients through the UR network.”
First located within the hospital, Thompson’s Sleep Disorders Center has been in operation since 1992. Current sleep patients have been notified of the location change. In addition, staff at the Center have been offered other positions within the UR enterprise.
In accordance with the requirements of the New York State Department of Health, Thompson executives have developed a detailed plan related to this initiative. In addition, Thompson has scheduled an open forum for its associates and members of the community to discuss this announcement on January 17, 2024 from noon to 1 p.m. in the hospital’s George M. Ewing, Jr. Conference Room. Guests may enter via The Thompson Way off West Street and use the entrance at the Constellation Center for Health and Healing.
