Brooks Receives Thompson’s Latest ‘DAISY’

CANANDAIGUA – Sahar Brooks is the latest UR Medicine Thompson Health recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Brooks, who goes by “Sarah,” is a resident of Canandaigua. She first joined Thompson in 2022 and is a nurse on floor 2 West, a medical/surgical unit at F.F. Thompson Hospital. She was nominated by a patient’s family member who said Brooks treated the patient as if he were her own family member, greeting him during each interaction with a smile and a gentle voice.

“She was so thorough with explaining what pills or medications she was giving him and what she was going to do so that he was not ever confused,” the woman wrote, adding, “She made my family comfortable, interacted with us, and spoke to us like regular people and not in medical words we can’t understand. She was very lovely.”

Surprised with the award while at work on Oct. 17, Brooks received a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. As a DAISY recipient, she is also eligible for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants from The DAISY Foundation.

Thompson’s quarterly DAISY award is part of a nationwide nurse recognition program. To nominate a nurse to be the next DAISY recipient, visit www.ThompsonHealth.com/DAISY.
