It is the belief of nurses that quality care and outcomes are achieved through a strong alliance between the nursing department, providers and interdisciplinary teams.
The Nursing Practice Council at F.F. Thompson Hospital serves as the vehicle for Shared Governance. With the CNO and the leadership team, it serves to provide strategic and operational direction for nursing professional practice. The Nursing Practice Council is comprised of representatives from each nursing unit in the hospital corporation, along with members of the leadership team and nursing administration.
The Chair and co-chair of the council are registered nurses, who are elected to serve for a two year term. Chairs and co-chairs can serve a maximum of 2 terms of office.
The council goals are:
To define and direct nursing practice
To foster interdisciplinary collaboration
To provide a framework to support participation in decision making
To attract and retain quality nurses
