Alyson F.
Alyson F. is a cook in Nutrition Services.
She joined Thompson Health in March of this year and the vaccine was available to her, but she wasn’t open to getting it yet. She wanted more information first.
One of the sources of information for Alyson was her mother, who worked in research at the University of Rochester for 35 years, focusing on clinical trials involving Huntington’s disease and Alzheimer’s. They talked about how the COVID-19 vaccines are made, what’s in them, and how they’re stored.
The information helped Alyson decide to get the Moderna vaccine, and she went to a local drug store for it.
“It was more for my parents than anything else,” she said, noting they had been urging her to do it, especially since she works in a hospital.
Alyson had her second dose in August and experienced a fever, chills and aches, “but it was everything that was expected.” “I just drank a lot of water and slept,” she said.
Alyson is confident that if she does get the virus via a breakthrough infection, she will likely not end up hospitalized because of it.
“Now that everything seems to be getting worse before it gets better again, I feel a little bit safer,” she said.
