Family Practice Opens its Doors at Sands Family YMCA
Situated in a vibrant facility brimming each day with hundreds of people focused on improving their health and wellbeing, our Mary Clark Thompson Family Practice opened its doors at the new Sands Family YMCA in October.
Along with their staff, three providers - Dr. Cynthia Teerlinck, Dr. Kate Skipton, and Physician Assistant Colleen Foote – are now seeing patients in a 5,400-square-foot space featuring 11 exam rooms, two treatment rooms, and five offices. They were previously a part of Canandaigua Family Practice on West Street, where four providers remain.
Foote described both the new Y and the practice as “beautiful.”
“The office is spacious and inviting. Patients are very excited and comfortable with the facility,” she said. “This is a great addition to the Thompson Hospital practices but even more so a great addition to the community!”
Dr. Teerlinck agreed.
“Being embedded in the YMCA creates a strong sense of community with people coming and going right outside our office entrance,” she said. “The staff in our office have had multiple interactions with the employees at the YMCA and we know that together we are making our community healthier.”
Created as a result of the relationship between UR Medicine and YMCA of Greater Rochester, the practice was built with expansion in mind. A third physician is expected to start in March 2024, and the practice can house an additional advanced practice provider – nurse practitioner or physician assistant – in the future.
