‘World-Class’ Neurosurgery Services, Close to Home

F.F. THOMPSON HOSPITAL now offers expanded neurosurgery services with the addition of three neurosurgeons from the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and two pain management specialists.

The team provides consultations for brain and spine disorders and pain conditions. They also perform neurosurgical operations and pain management interventions within the hospital as well as offer emergency services.

“We are excited this team of neurosurgeons is available to care for our patients at F.F. Thompson Hospital. The ability to offer this level of neurosurgical expertise locally and make
F.F. Thompson a portal to world-class neurosurgery care represents a significant step forward for our organization,” said Dr. Webster Pilcher, the chairman of the Department of
Neurosurgery at URMC.

Pilcher said URMC neurosurgeons Dr. Pierre Girgis, Dr. Thomas Mattingly and Dr. Andrew Wensel bring with them the latest advancements and treatment methods.

They are joined by nurse practitioners Kathleen McIntosh, Kim Page and Cassandra June and specialize in:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Spinal radiculopathy
  • Spinal stenosis and herniated discs
  • Minimally-invasive and complex spine surgery
  • Peripheral nerve/carpal tunnel
  • Brain and spinal tumors
  • Carotid/vertebral artery disease

  • Deep brain stimulation (DBS)/movement disorders

Girgis, Mattingly and Wensel see patients on the ground floor of Thompson’s Professional Building, while pain management specialists Dr. Anthony Eidelman and nurse practitioner Michelle Dugan, are based at the Marilyn Sands Outpatient Clinic. Both locations have an address of 395 West St. and are located on opposite sides of the hospital’s Constellation Center for Health and Healing.
