In honor of World Diabetes Day, Thompson Health dietitians and patient educators are partnering with St. Mary’s Health Council to host a public forum, “Diabetes: Celebrating the Holidays with Confidence,” on Friday, Nov. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Dougherty Hall, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua.
The event will feature vendor displays, a light dinner, tips from dieticians and keynote speaker Dr. Jerry Ginsberg, endocrinologist. Dr. Ginsberg will discuss how to manage diabetes, particularly during the hectic holiday season.
The cost of the event is a $5 donation. Proceeds benefit the Thompson Health Diabetes Education Scholarship Fund, established to help the growing number of patients with diabetes who are not able to afford the education and training they need to successfully manage their disease. Registration is required; call (585) 396-6233 or visit www.ThompsonHealth.com to register.
In addition, a number of local churches will show their support for diabetes awareness and education on Sunday, Nov. 14, the actual date of World Diabetes Day. Community members and clergy are encouraged to wear light blue, the official color of this international movement, on this day. Participating churches will light a special blue candle on World Diabetes Day in honor of those whose lives have been affected by diabetes. Diabetes education materials will also be available at all participating churches. For more information or to receive a candle, please call (585) 396-6233.
