In honor of World Diabetes Day, Thompson Health dietitians and patient educators are hosting “Diabetes: A Family Affair,” a community forum on diabetes management from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, at the New York Wine and Culinary Center, 800 South Main St., Canandaigua.
The event will feature vendor displays, speakers and a cooking demonstration/tasting in the culinary center’s Educational Theater. The keynote speaker is Reggie Bishop, an A1C Champion who has been living with Type 1 diabetes for 36 years. He will share his personal experiences regarding being diagnosed, making the decision to control his blood sugar and incorporating diabetes management into his daily routine. This interactive presentation will focus on young diabetics. In addition, informational tables on topics such as new technologies in diabetes management will also be available.
Proceeds benefit the Thompson Health Diabetes Education Scholarship Fund. This fund was established to help the growing number of patients with diabetes that are not able to afford the education and training they need to successfully manage their disease.
The cost of the event is $15. Space is limited so register early. Call (585) 396-6233 or visit www.ThompsonHealth.com to register.
