CANANDAIGUA, NY- Thompson Health is pleased to announce the naming of Wendy Ubbink as the manager of the Recreation Therapy Department at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center.
A Canandaigua native who now lives in Waterloo, Ubbink has a bachelor’s of science degree in therapeutic recreation from SUNY Cortland and has been with Thompson Health for almost 10 years. She formerly worked as the Recreation Therapy Coordinator for the care center, providing therapy on one of its avenues, The Pines, and coordinating the volunteers on that avenue.
As Manager of Recreation Therapy, Ubbink supervises the staff and volunteers. She also oversees planning and organization of the department, which provides:
• Support and/or rehabilitation for the intellectual, physical, psycho-social, and spiritual capacity/health of each resident in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Socialization opportunities for residents through the planning and implementation of group activities, arranging outside entertainment and outings and other activities to enhance their quality of life.
Located at 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua, the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center is a 188-bed residential health care facility offering quality skilled nursing care. It is an affiliate of Thompson Health.
