CANANDAIGUA – The Wellness Department at UR Medicine Thompson Health is conducting a free, six-week workshop called “Live Well, Be Well: Take Charge of Your Health,” focusing on a research-based chronic disease self-management program developed by Stanford University.
Beginning February 7 and continuing through March 14, the class will meet from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday at Eighty Parrish Street Apartments, located at 80 Parrish Street in Canandaigua. It is for anyone with a chronic health condition or a caregiver for someone with a chronic health condition including but not limited to arthritis, asthma, diabetes, emphysema, heart disease, lung disease, or Parkinson’s.
Participants will learn how to build a more effective relationship with their doctor; how to communicate with family and friends about their condition; how to manage medications; how to set and achieve goals; how to deal with pain, frustration, isolation, and lack of energy, as well as eating tips to help them feel better. In addition, participants will explore developing an exercise routine.
Class size is limited. To register or for more information, call Amanda Reynolds at 585-396-6589 or email Amanda_Reynolds@URMC.Rochester.edu.
