Thompson Health’s Spirit of Women program hosted an evening of humor, health and pampering for women called Spirit Girls’ Night Out on Oct. 1, 2011 at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, New York. The goal of this national event is to inspire women to take charge of their health for themselves and their families.
20 departments from Thompson Health provided screenings and wellness information including a live echocardiogram demonstration, free chair massages, blood pressure screenings, pulmonary function assessments, purse weighing station for back health, brown bag medication review, digital mammogram scheduling, answers to health insurance questions and more.
In addition to the health and wellness information, 20 local vendors provided pampering and products for Girls’ Night Out including Sweet Expressions, New York New York, Silk Creations by Prudy Whitehead & Len Brondum, Wick-edly Sent, Guild Gallery Gift Shop, NARS Cosmetics from Lord & Taylor and many others. Not-for-profit organizations including Embrace Your Sisters, Visiting Nurse Service, VA Women’s Health Services, Step-by-Step of Rochester and others were there to share information about their organizations.
Keynote speaker for the evening was nationally recognized inspirational humorist and author, Reneé Rongen, who had guests both laughing and wiping away tears with her “Legacy” keynote address.
“Thompson’s first Spirit Girls’ Night Out provided women an opportunity to come together in a trusted healthcare environment for health and wellness information presented in a fun way,” said Jeanna Savage, director of Spirit of Women at Thompson Health. “With the help of Thompson’s Associates and volunteers, generous community vendors and our guest speaker, we hope we empowered women to take action towards good health!”
Girls’ Night Out is sponsored by the Spirit of Women National Network and will be held in more than 65 cities across the United States in October.
