CANANDAIGUA – F.F. Thompson Hospital was recently named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Minimally Invasive Surgery by the Women’s Choice Award®. This signifies that Thompson, an affiliate of UR Medicine, is in the top 6 percent of 4,728 hospitals reviewed, meeting the highest standards for surgical safety/quality of care and having some of the lowest rates of surgical infections and complications in the nation.
Minimally invasive surgery has become the standard of care for many surgical procedures as a safer and more effective option to open surgery, minimizing risks by significantly reducing the size of incisions. Benefits include shorter hospital stays, fewer complications and faster recovery as well as reduced pain, scarring and costs.
Thompson has received this latest distinction by meeting the following criteria:
- The hospital is listed by the American Hospital Directory as providing robotic surgery and is designated by the Surgical Review Corporation as a Center of Excellence for Robotic Surgery.
- The hospital has a patient recommendation rating of 72 percent or more (i.e. higher than the national average) from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) survey.
“In addition to meeting the highest level of objective criteria, we had to earn this distinction from our community by meeting the patient satisfaction criteria, and we are so proud of this accomplishment,” said Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. Jillian Babu. “Through this partnership with the Women’s Choice Award, we’re part of an elite network of healthcare facilities and corporations across America that are all committed to empowering women to make smart healthcare choices. This award, combined with our focus on honoring diversity, equity and inclusion, elevates women’s health care throughout our region.”
