CANANDAIGUA – UR Medicine Thompson Health today announced the receipt of a $150,000 donation from KeyBank in support of F.F. Thompson Hospital’s expansion of its intensive care unit (ICU) and pulmonary care clinic.
“F.F. Thompson Hospital’s expanded ICU and pulmonary medicine clinic will set a new standard for quality care in Canandaigua and the surrounding area,” said KeyBank Senior Vice President Phil Muscato. “Our purpose is to help the communities we serve thrive. All of us at KeyBank are pleased to support the growth happening at this facility and help Thompson continue the life-saving work they are doing in the Finger Lakes community.”
Slated for completion in the spring of 2020, the Thompson project involves replacing the current, seven-bed ICU with a 12-bed ICU featuring spacious patient rooms and a centrally-located nurses’ station allowing for more efficient, effective care. This larger ICU will support the hiring of full-time “intensivists,” which are physicians specially trained in the care and management of critical care patients. In addition, as many as 300 patients per year will receive critical care closer to home – rather than being transferred to Rochester – and this is expected to not only ease the burden on families but decrease the overall cost of care regionally.
The pulmonary clinic, located just beneath the ICU, will be approximately three times the size of Thompson’s current one. This will make it possible for the hospital to better meet the needs of those of local residents with including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), emphysema, asthma, pneumonia and other complex diseases of the respiratory system.
Muscato presented a ceremonial check from KeyBank during a recent event hosted by the F.F. Thompson Foundation to celebrate the progress to date on the project and related capital campaign, which to date has raised $11.25 million of the $12 million necessary.
“KeyBank is a true community partner when it comes to supporting initiatives to benefit the health and well-being of those we serve. We are tremendously grateful for its generosity and its confidence in our health system,” said Thompson Health President/CEO Michael F. Stapleton, Jr.
