CANANDAIGUA – UR Medicine Thompson Health Physical Therapist Parker Drumm will present “Falls Prevention: Prepare to Prevent” at Ferris Hills at West Lake on Wednesday, April 24.
The 2 p.m. program is free and open to the public. It will be held in Rayburn Hall at the independent living community, located on Peg Rayburn Drive with the campus accessed via either West Lake Road (County Road 16) or Middle Cheshire Road.
Drumm, who has a doctorate degree in physical therapy from the University of Delaware, works with outpatients at Thompson’s Canandaigua Rehabilitation location. In addition to being a New York State-Licensed Physical Therapist, he is a Neurologic Clinical Specialist whose interests include neurological disorders, sports, and orthopedics.
Attendees will:
- Learn what a physical therapist may do to address factors related to fall risk
- Learn the importance of physical activity for fall prevention
- Understand the social implications of fear of falling
- Discuss the importance of appropriate use of assistive devices
- Learn about the medical and financial costs of falls
