Thompson Health is teaming up with the Canandaigua Family YMCA to offer two special programs for athletes of all levels during the month of February: SportsmetricsTM and WIPP: Warm-up for Injury Prevention and PerformanceTM.
SportsmetricsTM is a scientifically-proven, comprehensive jump training program that can reduce an athlete’s risk of injury. Designed by Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center, this program combines plyometrics, strength training and flexibility to increase power and prevent injuries caused by improper jump form.
The 6-week program, held Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 3 through Mar. 22, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., includes a pre- and post-test. The cost is $50 for YMCA members and $60 for non-members.
Another option for athletes is WIPP: Warm-up for Injury Prevention and PerformanceTM, a specially-designed warm-up incorporating the five components of SportsmetricsTM for maximum efficiency and conditioning: dynamic warm-up, plyometrics, strength, flexibility and agility. Participants can attend on Friday, Feb. 11 or Friday, Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. Each session is about 20 minutes long and costs $10 for YMCA members/$15 for non-members.
Both programs are presented by Jeremy Herniman, a certified Athletic Trainer, and can be particularly beneficial for high school athletes who are prone to knee injuries. Contact the Sports Medicine Center at (585) 396-6700 for more information and the YMCA at (585) 394-6866 to register.
