Thompson Health’s Wish Upon a Star program was one of six charities selected to participate in the Finger Lakes Charity Cup, held on Sept. 24 at Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack in Farmington. More than 40 charities applied for this year’s cup and selection was based upon several factors, including need, services provided, the concept of the program and impact on the community.
The six charities chosen participated in six races and winners were based on the cumulative results of each race. The Wish Upon a Star program at Thompson Health placed fourth, with a prize of $4,000.
Thompson’s prize will support the Wish Upon a Star program, to grant the wishes of residents of the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, Thompson’s 188-bed skilled-nursing facility. Since the program launched last October, wishes granted have included a visit from a string quartet, a lakeside wedding anniversary dinner, a trip to New York City to see a Mets game, a fishing trip and an afternoon at the theatre with family members.
