Thompson Health has received a $75,000 state grant from Senator Volker’s office for the F.F. Thompson Hospital expansion and renovation initiative. The monies are for the feasibility, design and development studies needed to undertake the renovation project.
The hospital plans to add a new 61,000-square-foot, two-story addition to the main hospital as well as renovate 42,000 square feet of space in the existing hospital. When completed, F.F. Thompson Hospital will have new areas for Surgical Care, Ambulatory Procedures, Rehabilitation Services, Laboratory, Nutrition Services and Associate Services. Groundbreaking for the new building is planned for this summer.
Thompson’s Building a Healthy Future Capital Campaign plans to raise a total of $14 million toward the $43.5 million project. To date, generous support from community members has generated more than $10 million.
In 2003, F.F. Thompson Hospital completed the first phase of its master facility plan, which renovated and upgraded the Emergency Department and Diagnostic Imaging areas. The hospital’s present facility was built in 1971, and both the community and the practice of medicine have experienced significant changes since that time.
