CANANDAIGUA – The Reaching for the Stars Gala raised approximately $185,000 to benefit UR Medicine Thompson Health’s Healthcare Education Fund, which makes it possible for entry-level staff members to overcome some of the barriers they face in advancing their education and careers.
Hosted by the F.F. Thompson Foundation and held Aug. 31 at Lincoln Hill Farms in Canandaigua, the Gala had more than 270 people in attendance. Genesee Construction was the presenting sponsor, with music from Dave Turner and Up to Somethin’.
Foundation Director Heather Rickett said Thompson is grateful to all of the event’s sponsors and to the attendees for their generosity.
“We are incredibly fortunate to enjoy this level of support from our community, and the support we received through this gala will directly benefit our associates, in turn benefiting our patients and our residents,” she said. “With the help of a lot of wonderful people who came together on a beautiful night, we made an amazing impact.”
Through the Healthcare Education Fund, stipends provide assistance to cover lost wages, childcare, and/or transportation. This makes working and going to school financially attainable, Rickett said, noting that four Thompson staff members who have been helped by the fund spoke at the gala, sharing their personal stories with attendees.
