CANANDAIGUA – Following a four-day site visit, UR Medicine Thompson Hospital recently received both Advanced and Standard Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Certifications from The Joint Commission, the premier healthcare quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation.
According to The Joint Commission, its COPD certification program was developed through a partnership with the American Lung Association and recognizes organizations making exceptional efforts to meet the specialized needs of COPD patients and ensure better outcomes for them.
These certifications encompass all COPD care within F.F. Thompson Hospital and four of its primary care locations: Canandaigua Family Practice, Lima Family Practice, Shortsville Family Practice and Macedon Family Practice. The hospital features a continuum of care for community members with COPD, a Pulmonary Disease Management Program and a Better Breathers support group for those with lung disease and breathing difficulties.
“We are extremely proud of the work done by our family practice and inpatient staff members,” said Thompson Health Executive Vice President/COO Kurt Koczent.
Koczent noted these represent the fifth and sixth Joint Commission certifications for Thompson, and are “a clear example of our commitment to excellence.” In recent years, the hospital has also received the commission’s Certificates of Distinction for both hip and knee replacements, Advanced Perinatal Certification, and Orthopedic Rehabilitation Certification.
