Symposium to Focus on End-of-Life Issues

The Sands Cancer Center will host a community symposium entitled “End-of-Life Decision Making: Options and Answers” on Thursday, April 26, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Inn on the Lake, 770 S. Main St., Canandaigua.
This community symposium will address issues regarding advance directives, palliative care and the MOLST form (Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment). Specialists will be on site to assist with completing living wills.
Keynote speeches include:
· “Palliative Care: Who, What, When, Where and Why” by Dr. Robert Horowitz, physician-consultant for the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Palliative Care Program
· “What Would You Do If You Couldn’t Make Medical Decisions?” by Dr. Patricia Bomba, FACP, vice president of Geriatrics for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield
· “Making End-of-Life Decisions for Ourselves and Others: Legal and Ethical Guidelines” by Jane Greenlaw, RN, JD, associate professor of Medical Humanities at the University of Rochester School of Medicine
The cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple, and scholarships are available. Refreshments will be provided.
