Sunset Serenades, Ferris Hills at West Lake’s annual summer concert series, will kick off on Wednesday, July 6, with a performance by Nostalgic Reunion, “a small band with a big band sound.”
A longtime favorite at Ferris Hills, Nostalgic Reunion is known for mellow jazz, Big Band swing, rhythm and blues, Latin sounds and classic pop tunes from the 1940s to present times. Instrumentation includes four saxophones – two altos, a tenor, and a baritone – plus keyboards, bass, drums and vocals. The ever-growing play list includes Ellington and Basie standards like Satin Doll and Shiny Stockings plus "cool jazz" tunes by Gerry Mulligan, Oliver Nelson and Charlie Parker, as well as charts like Line For Lyons, Stolen Moments, and Yardbird Suite.
The six-week, Wednesday evening Sunset Serenade series is free and open to the public, with no reservations required and free parking available. Bottled water is provided free of charge.
Each concert begins at 7 p.m., and those who attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The remaining schedule is as follows:
v July 13: Dady Brothers
v July 20: Company B
v July 27: Jack Allen’s Big Band
