CANANDAIGUA – Per a recent amendment to New York State Public Health Law, Thompson Health is required to comply with the smoke-free campus and grounds mandate signed by the governor over the summer.
The amendment takes effect Oct. 29 and requires Thompson to prohibit smoking not only indoors but outdoors as well, on the grounds of its facilities and within 15 feet of the entrances to the grounds. This includes parking lots, driveways and sidewalks, as well as vehicles located on campus.
Thompson, which adopted its own smoke-free policy in 2007, offers smoking cessation programs for its own associates and for community members as well. For information about these programs, call the health system’s Wellness Department at (585) 396-6111.
