The residents of the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center will host the community for the fourth annual U.S.O. Canteen Swing Dance on Friday, June 1.
Held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the skilled-nursing facility, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua, this patriotic event will have the theme of a World War II-era U.S.O. canteen. In addition to the Four on the Floor jazz quartet, the event will feature members of the Rochester Swing Dance Network and refreshments.
This fourth annual swing dance will serve as a fundraiser for Blue Star Mothers of America, NY #1.
For admission, guests are asked to bring donated items for the organization’s “Summer for Soldiers” campaign. The campaign will send packages overseas at a time when soldiers typically do not receive many. Suggested items to donate include trail mix, chewy granola bars, travel-size toiletries, canned fruit, disposable cameras, batteries, sunblock, beef jerky, hard candy and “flip flop” shoes. The Blue Star Mothers ask that people please not donate chocolate, “crushables,” peanut butter or pork items. Cash donations will go toward postage.
For more information about the dance, call (585) 396-6049.
Those who are unable to attend the dance but wish to contribute to the campaign can use the drop-off box in the lobby of the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center at any time leading up to the June 1 dance. For a full list of items needed for the soldiers’ packages, please visit www.bluestarmothersny1.org/wishList.htm.
