CANANDAIGUA – UR Medicine’s Thompson Health is hosting a Breast Feeding Instructors’ Course Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 17-19.
The audience for this course – which fulfills the UNICEF recommendations for those who work with mothers and babies – includes OB nurses and breastfeeding instructors. Based on the new 20-hour Curriculum in Support of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, the course was developed with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the U.S. Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. It counts as a recertification for CLC (Certified Lactation Consultant) but not as the CLC course.
Topics include the prenatal period, counseling the mother in her social context, basics of lactation management, breastfeeding under special circumstances, and more.
The cost for the three-day course is $175 per person with a price break for a group of at least four people ($125 per person). The schedule is 1-4 p.m. on Aug. 17, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on both Aug. 18 and Aug. 19, with classes held in the ground floor conference rooms of the Constellation Center for Health and Healing at Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua.
The registration deadline is Thursday, Aug. 10. Call Thompson Health’s Wellness Department at (585) 396-6111 to sign up.
