CANANDAIGUA, NY- Timothy Quill, MD, a nationally-recognized expert in end-of-life issues, will be the keynote speaker at “Insights and Innovations,” a community symposium hosted by the Sands Cancer Center on Wednesday, May 21.
Held at the Inn on the Lake, 770 S. Main St. in Canandaigua, the symposium will begin with registration at 1 p.m., followed by opening remarks on “Cancer and Cancer Statistics” at 1:30 p.m. from Carlos R. Ortiz, MD, Sr. Vice President of Medical Services at Thompson Health.
Presentations by area physicians and other experts in the field will include “Journaling: A Resource for Cancer Patients and Providers,” “Common Hereditary Cancer Syndromes,” “Therapeutic Advances in Radiation Oncology,” “Complementary Medicine Options for Cancer Patients” and “Update on the Treatment of Myelodysplastic Syndromes.” In addition, guests will be treated to refreshments and interactive exhibits throughout the day.
During dinner, Dr. Quill will speak on “Palliative Care for Cancer Patients: Too Often a Missing Piece of the Puzzle.” The head of the Palliative Care Program at Strong Health, Dr. Quill is the author of five books on palliative care and end-of-life concerns and has been featured on several news programs, including “20/20,” “Dateline” and “Nightline.”
