CANANDAIGUA – The Palliative Care Program at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center is partnering with YoBerry at Parkway Plaza on Eastern Boulevard for a fundraiser.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, customers who remember to use the code word “THOMPSON” when paying for their frozen yogurt at this YoBerry location will ensure that they are helping support palliative care for residents at M.M. Ewing, a skilled-nursing facility operated by UR Medicine’s Thompson Health in Canandaigua.
At the end of the day, 20 percent of the gross sales to customers who used the code word “THOMPSON” will go to the program, which provides residents receiving palliative care with comforting items such as handmade quilts and CDs with soothing music. The program recently acquired iPads to loan to these residents, so they can watch favorite movies or hold video chats with family members who live far away.
Also through the Palliative Care Program at M.M. Ewing, there is a “comfort cart” for families keeping vigil with residents receiving end-of-life care. This cart is stocked with bottled water, snacks and toiletries. The program also provides special furniture for family members who wish to stay overnight alongside residents while keeping vigil.
