VICTOR — The 2015 Pink Fly Ladies’ Golf Tournaments, held June 6 at the Victor Hills Golf Club, raised approximately $12,000 for the Breast Health Navigation Program offered by UR Medicine’s Thompson Health.
Since its inception 12 years ago, Pink Fly Golf has raised more than $70,000 for breast health programs at Thompson. Thompson’s Breast Health Navigation Program, which will receive the money raised this year, provides support and coordination assistance for a wide variety of services for those diagnosed with breast cancer. Currently offered at Thompson Hospital, the program will continue to be offered to patients of the Dr. Laurie Sands and Constellation Brands Breast Imaging Center, which Thompson is opening in September at 195 Parrish St., across the street from the hospital.
The winning team at this year’s Pink Fly Invitational (scramble format) consisted of Margaret Cooper, Kelly Lavoie, Ellen Weeks and Deb Woleslagle. The winning team at the Pink Fly Classic (best ball format) was made up of Tara Bearer, Patty Hanavan, Stacy Michelski and Vicky Rizzolo.
Pink Fly Golf and Pink Fly LLC provide women the opportunity to come together, grow and benefit those in the community. Since 2003, the golf tournaments have combined golf, fun and friends to raise money for those with breast cancer. Tournament organizer Nancy Alexander said it’s made possible by the passion of all involved, especially the volunteers known as the “Pink Fly Fairies.” Jennifer Haney and Patti Hill lead these spirited women.
“This extraordinary group of volunteers is incredibly supportive, with enthusiasm that is infectious. Our results are a direct reflection on them,” Alexander said.
The Pink Fly Golf Tournament raised the majority of this year’s donation to Thompson. A Sip ‘n Tip held each spring is also a fundraiser for this same cause. Alexander added, “This is a year-round effort with notable dedication from Jennifer and Patti as well as Noelle Fagan, Zoe Haubert, Mary Jo Weegar and Deb Whalen.”
The 2016 tournament is scheduled for next June 4 at Victor Hills. For more information, visit www.pinkflygolf.com/blog, or contact Alexander at (585) 738-4058 or nancyalexander@pinkflygolf.com.
