Marissa LeBlanc, BSN, RN, is the latest UR Medicine Thompson Health recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
LeBlanc, a resident of Farmington, first joined Thompson in 2021 and is a nurse with Canandaigua Medical Group Pediatrics. She was nominated for the award by a colleague who said she is supportive of her peers and is an expert on prior authorizations and insurance, “which helps us as providers navigate the day so much better.”
“She will frequently be on the phone advocating for patient's needs with insurances and pharmacies to ensure that they get what they need for their overall health and wellbeing,” the colleague said, adding, “All this as well as rooming patients, administering vaccinations, completing vitals on children from newborn to 21 years, administering medications, assessing and bonding with our families.”
The nomination continued by noting LeBlanc is sometimes specifically requested by families, “because of her remarkable ability to holistically care and provide for the families in our clinic.”
“I truly believe that she meets the criteria for the DAISY Award through her compassion, empathy, and caring nature as a pediatric nurse,” the colleague said.
Surprised with the award during a team meeting on July 11, LeBlanc received a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. As a DAISY recipient, she is also eligible for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants from The DAISY Foundation. Thompson’s quarterly DAISY award is part of a nationwide nurse recognition program.
