CANANDAIGUA – The committee for the Margery Coughlin Pawluk Golf Tournament recently made the difficult decision to cancel the event for 2021.
“The committee felt that the energy, camaraderie and goodwill our guests have come to expect at our event would again be difficult to safely maintain this year,” read a letter announcing the decision. “Our most important priority is protecting the health and well-being of our supporters. While we were sad to cancel, we believe it is the right thing to do at this time.”
Since the inception of the Naples tournament in 2005, it has raised more than $150,000 for the Margery Coughlin Pawluk Cancer Patient Needs Fund. The fund helps patients of the Sands Cancer Center, an affiliate of the Wilmot Cancer Institute on UR Medicine Thompson Health’s campus in Canandaigua, with the unexpected financial hardships of a long illness.
Because the 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 as well, the fund is nearly depleted. Those wishing to support it with a donation may:
- Visit www.ThompsonHealth.com/Give and designate “Pawluk patient needs”
- To pay by phone via credit card, call the University of Rochester gift office at (585) 275-8602
- Send a check payable to the F.F. Thompson Foundation, Inc. – with “Pawluk patient needs” in the memo – to the foundation at 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua NY 14424
“With your help, we will continue to provide support for those in need, including family, friends and neighbors in our community,” said event chairman Tom Pawluk.
