CANANDAIGUA – Registered Nurse Lindsey VanKeuren is the latest UR Medicine Thompson Health recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
VanKeuren, a resident of Penn Yan in Yates County, formerly worked as a pharmacy technician at F.F. Thompson Hospital. She graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with her nursing degree in May 2023 and entered Thompson’s RN Residency Program for new nurses who receive support and experience while coupled with a preceptor.
While based on the hospital’s 3 East unit during the residency program, VanKeuren cared for a patient who had cancer and the patient later nominated her for The DAISY Award. In the nomination, the patient wrote that VanKeuren was especially attentive and compassionate while providing care that “made a world of difference in my recovery."
Having completed the RN Residency Program, VanKeuren is now based in the hospital’s Birthing Center. She was surprised with the award while at work on Jan. 10, receiving a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. As a DAISY recipient, she is also eligible for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants from The DAISY Foundation. She is the sixth recipient of Thompson’s quarterly DAISY award, which is part of a nationwide nurse recognition program.
