CANANDAIGUA, NY – Susan Bonanni of Canandaigua is the new social worker/coordinator for Thompson Health’s Sands Cancer Center.
Bonanni joined the cancer center in March. She coordinates events and programs, works with other agencies serving the cancer center’s patients and supports patients throughout treatment. That support can include everything from emotional support, to assistance with filling out insurance forms and navigating the healthcare system.
A Pittsford native, Bonanni has a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Community Services from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She previously worked as the oncology coordinator for St. Joseph Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care and Research in Atlanta, Ga., a city where she also worked as a public information specialist for the American Cancer Society. Most recently, Bonanni was a case manager/rural outreach coordinator for AIDS Rochester.
Located at 360 Parrish St. in Canandaigua, the Sands Cancer Center is comprised of specialists from Thompson Health, the University of Rochester Medical Center and Interlakes Oncology and Hematology, P.C. The facility houses medical and radiation oncology treatment areas, a resource library and a Style Shop. It also hosts a number of support groups and partners with Thompson Health’s BodyMind Center to provide a full range of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) options to patients.
