CANANDAIGUA – UR Medicine Thompson Health is urging local residents to join Americans across the country by taking part in National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) on Monday, April 16, and in Donate Life Month, throughout the month of April.
Both NHDD and Donate Life Month are collaborative efforts on the part of national, state and community organizations committed to ensuring all adults with decision-making capacity have the opportunity to communicate and document their healthcare decisions for family, friends and healthcare providers.
The objectives are to provide information to the public, reduce the number of tragedies that occur when a person’s wishes are unknown, and improve the ability of healthcare facilities and providers to offer informed and thoughtful guidance about advance healthcare planning to their patients.
Thompson is encouraging community members to complete their own advance directives using resources available at
www.nysba.org/NHDDMaterials/ and to enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry,
www.donorrecovery.org.
Thompson’s Ethics Committee and the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network will be sharing materials related to NHDD on Monday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a table outside the hospital cafeteria, and members of the public are welcome to stop by. The hospital is located at 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua.
