NAPLES – The 15th Margery Coughlin Pawluk Invitational Golf Tournament, held in June, raised approximately $17,000 for the Margery Coughlin Pawluk Cancer Patient Needs Fund. This fund helps patients of the Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Sands Cancer Center – on the UR Medicine Thompson Health campus in Canandaigua – with the unexpected costs of a long illness.
Since its inception in 2005, the tournament has now raised a total of more than $200,000 for the fund, created in memory of a nurse and mother of three who received treatment at the Sands Cancer Center. Organizers were forced to cancel the tournament in 2020 and 2021, due to the pandemic, so this year’s was the first since 2019.
Those who were unable to attend the tournament but wish to support the Margery Coughlin Pawluk Cancer Patient Needs Fund with a donation may:
- Visit www.ThompsonHealth.com/Give and designate “Pawluk patient needs”
- Pay by phone via credit card, calling the University of Rochester gift office at (585) 275-8602
- Send a check payable to the F.F. Thompson Foundation, Inc. – with “Pawluk patient needs” in the memo – to the foundation at 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua NY 14424
Tournament organizer Tom Pawluk recently sent a letter to supporters, thanking them and letting them know that although this year’s was the final golf tournament, the committee is exploring new ways to keep the fund going.
“I truly believe we can raise enough funds through new programs and ideas that are developing right now,” he said. “My hope is that the fellowship will still continue for the patients at the Sands Cancer Center.”
