CANANDAIGUA – Three area chapters of the American Legion Riders are hosting a motorcycle ride through the Finger Lakes on Saturday, Oct. 7, with proceeds benefiting the Community Transportation Fund at the Dr. Laurie Sands and Constellation Brands Breast Imaging Center at UR Medicine Thompson Health.
With registration beginning at 9 a.m., the ride will set off at 11 a.m. from the north parking lot at Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua. All vehicles are welcome, including not only motorcycles but classic cars, hot rods and even minivans. The 100-mile scenic ride will be held rain or shine and will end at American Legion Post 256, located at 454 N. Main St. in Canandaigua, with a 4:30 p.m. reception and cash bar continuing until 7 p.m. The American Legion Riders from Post 282 in Lima and Post 1341 in Sonyea
are joining the Canandaigua chapter in sponsoring the ride.
For those who register by Oct. 4, the event is $15 per rider and $10 per passenger, with the registration fees considered a donation to the newly-created Community Transportation Fund. This fund will assist patients of Thompson’s Breast Imaging Center who do not have access to reliable transportation. It provides for gas cards, cab rides or other specialized transportation to eliminate barriers of receiving health care such as mammograms, bone density testing, and other services provided by the Breast Imaging Center.
Registration fees increase to $20 per rider and $15 per passenger after Oct. 4.
