VICTOR — The 2017 Pink Fly Classic Ladies’ Golf Tournament, held June 3 at the Victor Hills Golf Club, raised almost $10,700 for the Breast Health Navigation Program offered by UR Medicine’s Thompson Health.
Since its inception 14 years ago, Pink Fly Golf has raised nearly $94,000 for breast health programs at Thompson.
“We spend a day together and celebrate life, and each other. We leave everything else behind and live from the heart. We care about each other and support each other. It’s really much, much more than a golf tournament,” said Nancy Alexander, tournament organizer.
This year’s tournament sold out – with 144 golfers – in just three weeks. The event included support from close to 30 volunteers. With a score of 66, the winning team consisted of repeat champions Tara Bearer, Patti Hanavan, Stacy Michalski and Vicky Rizzolo.
Thompson’s Breast Health Navigation Program will receive the money raised this year. The program is offered at the Dr. Laurie Sands and Constellation Brands Breast Imaging Center, located at 195 Parrish St., across the street from the Thompson Hospital. The program supports patients through their diagnosis, treatment, after-care and survivorship, linking them to the appropriate professionals, coordinating follow-up appointments, managing the delivery of reports to the patients’ care teams and connecting the patients to community resources, including support groups.
