Four Students Receive $2,000 Scholarships from Guild

CANANDAIGUA – Four local high school seniors who are about to pursue degrees in healthcare-related fields each received $2,000 scholarships from the Thompson Health Guild recently.
The scholarships were presented at the Guild’s annual dinner, held at Ferris Hills at West Lake on June 1. Dr. Mary Brady and RN Sue Underhill of Light Hill – the new comfort care home in Canandaigua – were the featured speakers.
This year’s recipients were as follows:
- Terry Tremblay Scholarship: Daniel Barnett of Canandaigua Academy will attend the University of Rochester, to study brain and cognitive science with plans to pursue a medical degree and focus on pediatric surgery.
- Deborah L. Kimble Scholarship: Sarah Werth of Canandaigua Academy will attend St. John Fisher College in Rochester, where she is enrolled in the nursing program with plans to obtain a bachelor’s in nursing and become a nurse practitioner.
- The Gerry North Scholarship: Emma May of Palmyra-Macedon High School will attend SUNY Binghamton and take part in its biomedical engineering program.
- Phyllis Ehmann Scholarship: Katrina Stevens of Honeoye Central School will attend Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, and has been accepted into the “3 Plus 3” physician program with SUNY Upstate Medical
University in Syracuse.
A not-for-profit fundraising organization, the Thompson Health Guild was established in 1905 by the F.F.
Thompson Hospital Board of Directors, for the purpose of raising funds to purchase needed medical equipment and furnishings for the hospital. Today, the Guild has more than 150 members and is governed by a volunteer board of directors as it supports the entire Thompson Health system.
