FARMINGTON - Finger Lakes Psychiatry opens Nov. 4 in the Thompson Medical Center at 1160 Corporate Drive in Farmington.
Housed in the same building with UR Medicine’s Thompson Health Urgent Care, the private practice will be open by appointment, primarily during weekdays but with some evening and weekend hours available. It’s an extension of Penfield Psychiatry, founded on Penbrooke Drive in Penfield in 2012 by Dr. Robert A. Stern.
Stern, who has practiced psychiatry in the Rochester area for more than 20 years, also has a Greece location. He said the decision to expand into Ontario County came as the result of conversations with practitioners in the area and his 2014 joining of Thompson’s medical staff in order to provide psychiatric consults for inpatients at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.
Stern is among the providers at the new Farmington location, along with nurse practitioners Pam King, Pam Marini, Lauren O’Meal, and Donna Wilber, as well as therapist Jennifer Meeks, LCSW-R.
Common issues addressed at Finger Lakes Psychiatry will include stress management, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief/loss and substance abuse/addictions. Services include:
• Individual assessment and therapy for a broad spectrum of mental health and chemical dependency issues and diagnoses
• Couples counseling
• Chemical dependency and mental health evaluations for court presentation/attorney requests
• Group counseling
• Assessment for psychiatric medication needs
• Ongoing medication management
In addition, Stern has developed a personal focus on helping people who are addicted to opiates – such as heroin and prescription pain medicine – by working with chemical dependency programs to provide medical and psychiatric assistance. “We think that’s going to fill a niche in the community,” he said.
Thompson Health Executive Vice President/COO Kurt Koczent agreed. “Dr. Stern and his staff will provide a critically needed specialty to the communities we serve, and we are excited to welcome them to our health system’s Farmington location,” he said.
