VICTOR — The 2018 Ladies’ Pink Fly Golf Classic, held June 2 at the Victor Hills Golf Club, raised more than $15,000 for UR Medicine Thompson Health.
This was the 15th and final tournament for the Pink Fly. Since its inception, the women-only tournament has raised more than $108,000 for breast health programs at Thompson.
“What a ride this has been! Things like this don’t just happen. It is made possible by passionate leaders, golfers, volunteers, sponsors and supporters. It is made from the time and effort each person brought forth year after year after year in order to make a difference. It is made by the mission to have fun and give back,” said tournament organizer Nancy Alexander, adding, “We believed we could do something special with a golf tournament. Mission accomplished.”
A total of 122 golfers and more than two dozen volunteers took part in this year’s tournament. With a score of 67, the winning team consisted of Laurie Barron, Anne Zengerle, Donna Forsyth and Moria Young.
Thompson’s Breast Health Navigation Program will receive the money raised this year. The program is offered at the Dr. Laurie Sands and Constellation Brands Breast Imaging Center, located at 195 Parrish St., across the street from the Thompson Hospital. The program supports patients through their diagnosis, treatment, after-care and survivorship, linking them to the appropriate professionals, coordinating follow-up appointments, managing the delivery of reports to the patients’ care teams and connecting the patients to community resources, including support groups.
“We are tremendously grateful to the organizers, volunteers and golfers who have made this tournament so phenomenal. The money they have raised has made, and will continue to make, a huge difference in the lives of those who turn to Thompson’s Breast Health Navigation Program for support and guidance,” said Anita Pietropaolo, director of the F.F. Thompson Foundation.
