CANANDAIGUA – The 15th annual Crosswinds 5K, hosted by Crosswinds Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua on Sept. 5, raised $10,300 for Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Sands Cancer Center at UR Medicine’s Thompson Health.
Since the 5K’s inception, nearly $60,000 has been raised for the Sands Cancer Center. This year, through sponsors and registrations, the event raised $5,150. A matching grant from Dr. Daniel Alexander and Gail Alexander made for a grand total of $10,300 raised.
In this year’s event, a total of 248 runners/walkers participated, with an age range from 6 to 84.
“We thoroughly enjoy working on this event,” said Val Klingensmith, co-coordinator of the Crosswinds 5K. “It’s wonderful to see the amount of support there is for patients at the Sands Cancer Center.”
PCR Timing provided the chip timing and results. The overall male/female winners were Scott Loforte of Canandaigua with a time of 17:03 minutes and Katie Cobos of Canandaigua with a time of 20:40 minutes.
