CANANDAIGUA – Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) recently announced that UR Medicine Thompson Health and the Greater Canandaigua Family YMCA will receive a donation of nearly $10,000. These dollars were generated from patrons visiting CMAC’s Constellation Brands ambassador tent featuring Kim Crawford, Band of Roses, Arbor Mist, Tom Gore, Ravage, 7Moons, and Woodbridge wines, Corona, Ballast Point and Modelo and then matched by Constellation Brands.
These tents were staffed by CMAC Ambassadors. The Ambassadors are Constellation Brands employees who volunteer their time on show nights. This year’s concert season consisted of 16 shows and attracted nearly 100,000 patrons.
“Great things happen when community members, leaders and local businesses collaborate for the betterment of a community,” said Lynn Freida, CMAC executive director. “We’re grateful for the generosity of our concertgoers and appreciate the dedication of our employee volunteers.”
Funds will support the Greater Canandaigua Family YMCA’s Annual Campaign, specifically helping to purchase more equipment for the youth programs and fund scholarships
to help children attend programs that keep them safe, happy and healthy. Constellation Brands founder Marvin Sands had a dream of providing young people with a place to play together, work together and build relationships.
“At the Canandaigua YMCA, our doors are open for the community to lead a healthy lifestyle in spirit, mind & body,” says Laurie O’Shaughnessy, Greater Canandaigua Family YMCA CEO and executive director. “Thanks to CMAC & Constellation for their continued support of our Y we’ve been able to help thousands of children & adults build a stronger life. We are proud to be a part of Marvin’s legacy.”
In addition, a free flu shot clinic provided by Thompson Hospital for both the uninsured and underinsured will be funded with these dollars. The free clinic will take place at the Canandaigua YMCA, 32 N. Main St., on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and will offer two vaccines for ages 9 and up. The standard 2018-19 vaccine provides protection against four flu viruses, including H3N2 and H1N1. The second option is for those 65 and older: This high-dose flu vaccine contains additional antigen designed to create a stronger immune response in the person receiving the vaccine and protects against three flu viruses.
Remaining funds will be designated for Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Sands Cancer Center Patient Needs Fund. The fund helps patients who are undergoing active treatment and have identified financial constraints. It assists with the unexpected costs of a long illness, providing financial assistance for necessities such as groceries, automobile fuel for transportation to/from medical appointments, and specialized medical needs.
