CANANDAIGUA – UR Medicine Thompson Health was recently awarded $3,000 through the Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack’s 10th annual Charity Cup, with the funds designated for the Patient Needs Fund at the Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Sands Cancer Center, located on the main Thompson campus in Canandaigua.
The Charity Cup event, held Oct. 28 at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack in Farmington, benefited not only Thompson but five other charities. The charities competed against one another in six races, winning points for first-, second- and third-place horses. Prize awards were then presented to each charity based upon the total number of points won. In addition, each charity had had the opportunity to present a trophy in the Winner’s Circle to the winning owner/trainer/jockey.
The Patient Needs Fund helps Sands Cancer Center patients who are undergoing active treatment, have identified financial constraints and are experiencing the unexpected costs of a long illness. It provides financial assistance for necessities such as groceries, automobile fuel for transportation to/from medical appointments, and specialized medical needs.
