CANANDAIGUA, NY – Thompson Health’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department recently received certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
Certification follows a lengthy review by the certification board of the department’s policies, procedures and documentation. It has been awarded only to approximately one-third of the programs in New York State, and Department Supervisor Mary Allhusen, a Board-Certified Registered Nurse Educator, says this achievement confirms that national standards of care are met at Thompson. Reimbursement from insurance providers is predicted to soon be linked to certification, she noted.
Dr. Bryan Henry, of Finger Lakes Cardiology Associates, is the medical director for Thompson’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, which in 2007 recorded nearly 8,700 interactions with patients, in addition to the many community members reached through the department’s Mall Walkers program, its annual Rose Walk benefit and its Mended Hearts support group. Allhusen said the following staff members are also to be applauded: Kathleen Hoven, BSN, RN, Kathy Roeland, RN, CEN, Holly Andrews, BSN, RN, Filomena Ernst, MS, RN, CS, Donna McCagg, MS, RN and Judy Flamini, LPN, Nutrition Educator.
“These women bring years of cardiac and critical care, emergency care, medical surgical, community education experience and cardiac rehabilitation expertise to the department’s success and excellence,” Allhusen said.
