Cancer Symposium to Focus on Family Perspective

CANANDAIGUA, NY- The Sands Cancer Center will host “Cancer: A Family Perspective” on Thursday, Sept. 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Burgundy Basin, 1361 Marsh Rd., Pittsford.
Friday, Sept. 17 is the deadline to register for this community education symposium, which seeks to guide individuals, family members and professionals through the challenges of a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and life after cancer. With cancer touching virtually every American’s life, this event provides thoughtful insight, valuable support mechanisms, and expert opinions on dealing with cancer.
The event’s keynote speaker is Gary Mervis, chairman & founder of Camp Good Days and Special Times, who will discuss “Improving Life for Families Coping with Cancer.”
Presentations by area physicians and experts will shed light on topics including children’s comprehension of cancer, bereavement and healing, the “sandwich generation,” cancer statistics and coping strategies. Additionally, a panel discussion will be led by cancer survivors, social workers and support group facilitators.
