CANANDAIGUA – With more than 80 employees and approximately 28,000 patients, the Canandaigua Medical Group (CMG) officially becomes part of UR Medicine Thompson Health on Monday, May 7.
"I want to thank all involved for their hard work and diligence. It has paid off, and our community will be better for it," said President/CEO Michael F. Stapleton Jr., FACHE.
Based across the street from F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua – with a smaller location in Farmington – the medical group was founded in 1951. Its departments include Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, and General Surgery. Its Canandaigua location also houses an on-site blood-draw station.
The agreement with Thompson involves construction of a new building to replace the existing one in Canandaigua, erected in 1970. Designed by Hanlon Architects of Rochester, the 44,000-square-foot building is going up just behind the existing building at 335 Parrish St. Once the new building is completed by Genesee Construction in early 2019, the existing building is to be leveled and the space it now occupies will become the new parking lot.
New services will include maternal-fetal medicine for OB/GYN patients and a drive-through pharmacy where community members can pick up their prescriptions right after appointments at their doctor’s offices or at the hospital.
In a recent letter to CMG patients, Dr. R. Douglas Allling – president of the CMG Board of Directors – said becoming part of Thompson “will allow us to continue focus on your medical care and draw upon the world-class resources at Thompson and the University of Rochester Medical Center.”
Plans call for upgrading the medical group’s electronic medical record (EMR) system this summer, to the EMR platform currently used by Thompson’s nine other practices in the region. In addition, all insurances accepted by the hospital will now be accepted by CMG.
Already, Thompson and the medical group have been collaborating on the recruitment of new physicians, hiring two new OB/GYNs in 2017. Recruitment of additional internal medicine physicians is currently under way.
Stapleton noted all CMG phone numbers remain unchanged, while information about CMG – including hours and names of providers accepting new patients – can now be found on www.ThompsonHealth.com.
