CANANDAIGUA, NY –Those behind a new clinic for the uninsured, underinsured and working poor have been granted permission to begin readying the site for inspection by the state Department of Health.
Standard contingencies in the Certificate of Need approved by the state over the summer have been addressed and successful DOH inspection would mean the clinic – recently named The Thompson Clinic at CCIA – could open its doors to the community, possibly before the end of the year.
The clinic, which will be located at 120 N. Main St. in Canandaigua, is a joint initiative of Thompson Health, Canandaigua Churches in Action (CCIA) and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. Duncan Rioch, board chairman for the CCIA, said the clinic represents “a gigantic win” for the community.
“The clinic will feature Thompson Health professionals and a separate area is being established where people can receive counsel on ways to meet the financial responsibilities associated with medical care,” Rioch said, adding, “The churches in Canandaigua have seen a need within the community for primary health care and Thompson Health has generously agreed to meet that need. God is blessing our beautiful city.”
To help prepare the clinic site, the CCIA is looking for construction professionals such as electricians, carpenters, communications techs, plumbers, drywall techs, mechanics for the sprinkler system and floor tile installers, as well as non-professional volunteers for removal of old floor covering, painting and general help. Those interested are asked to contact Deacon Claude Lester at 585-394-1220, ext. 15.
In addition, a job posting for a nurse practitioner for the clinic appears on Thompson’s Web site, www.ThompsonHealth.com, under the “Careers” section.
